About the Artist
Hannah Garrity holds a Bachelor of Fine Art in Painting from Cornell University; Master of Science in Teaching from Pace University. She also holds a Post-Graduate Professional Virginia State Elementary Teaching License and is a Fully Certified Responsive Classroom Teacher. After earning her BFA in Painting from Cornell University in 2004, Hannah joined Teach for America and taught 3rd and 2nd grades in Brooklyn, NY. During TFA, she completed her MST at Pace University in downtown Manhattan, NY. Hannah continued her teaching career as an elementary general educator for seven years in Charlottesville City Schools in 1st and 2nd grades and one in Winchester Public Schools in 4th grade. In 2013, Hannah began working as the liturgical artist for the Montreat Conference Center (www.montreat.org), in Montreat, NC. She has produced 32 full-scale, text-based art installations in that role. She also contracts with churches to produce art, do workshop on sacred arts, and lead visual choirs and youth groups in the production of art installations. In 2014, Hannah joined Powhatan School (www.powhatanschool.org) as the lower school art teacher. Presently, she joyfully continues simultaneously as artist and teacher. Hannah was inducted into the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014 for her contributions in Track and Field as a sprint hurdler. She loves teaching and making art; and enjoying time with her family.
